This edit centers on big-picture aspects of your manuscript: structure, character development, narrative tension, world-building, voice, narration, etc. I leave an average of 2 to 4 margin comments per page, along with a 7 to 10-page Roadmap to Revision letter summarizing my feedback and laying out a revision plan. I begin the letter by describing what’s working in the manuscript -- scenes or chapters that flowed particularly well, craft elements that were executed effectively -- and then address what can be improved upon. My focus is on the key craft elements of the genre (structure, character, voice, narration, etc.) rather than sentence-level issues that are likely to shift as you revise.
